Our Client is a large, independent Packaging Distributor based in the South East.  Our client has an excellent reputation for quality and service and have a prestigious client base; due to expansion they are looking to employ a Business Development Manager. The role is to manage a portfolio of existing accounts and generate new business – the role can be more towards Key Account Management or New Business depending on the successful applications skill set / preference.

Product Range: Corrugated Packaging, Protective Packaging / Void Fill, Mailing Packaging, Tapes, Stretchfilm etc.

The successful candidate will be responsible for bringing on new, ‘TOP 20’ prospects and directing the service and maintenance of them.


  • To increase ‘new business’ sales in line with company targets
  • To increase the gross profit from any existing TOP 20 customers
  • To ensure that all TOP 20 customers in territory end up more than satisfied
  • Appointment reports carried out before leaving customer premises and submitted weekly
  • KPI forms submitted on a weekly basis
  • Quotations submitted to customer within acceptable/agreed timeframe
  • Appointments attended punctually
  • Quotations followed up in a timely manner (generally within 24 hours of submission of quotation)


  • Ensure overall margin is satisfactory in line with targets set
  • Ensure all current customer quotes are sent and followed up quickly
  • Ensure no single line items are being lost from current customer accounts
  • Cross-sell and up-sell to existing clients
  • Attend sales appointments
  • Ensure quotations are submitted in an acceptable timescale (as per KPI sheet)
  • Ensure quotations are followed up until they become a current customer

Performance Indicators:

  • New Business in line with individual targets
  • Existing business in line with individual targets
  • New business GP in line with individual targets
  • Current customer GP in line with individual targets

Must Haves:

  • Must have a full driving Licence
  • Must have good face-2-face skills
  • Must be persistent in nature
  • Must be organised within customer services
  • Able to work closely and communicate with other sales team members
  • Significant and proven experience in face-2-face presentation and assessing customer requirements and needs
  • Good knowledge of selling into the packaging market
