Hours Of Work: Monday – Thursday 10pm – 6am, and Friday 8pm – 3am

Our client is a well-established corrugated manufacturer with an excellent reputation in the industry. They provide bespoke corrugated packaging to a wide range of market sectors.

They are currently looking to recruit a Shift Manager to effectively manage all operations within the specified sections to ensure KPI’s targets and business objectives are met.

As the Shift Manager, you will direct manufacturing operations performed during the shift; ensuring that safety, volume, quality and cost goals are achieved.

Person Specification, Key Experience & Knowledge Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience managing corrugated case makers (i.e. flexo-folder-gluers)
  • Must have extensive shift/production management experience gained within a middle management role in the manufacturing sector (Essential)
  • Good health and safety awareness is essential NEBOSH qualification would be preferred
  • Process Improvement / Lean / Six Sigma experience is preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of setting up a case maker, printing and die cutting in-line
  • Good housekeeping skills
  • Excellent man manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage up to 25 people
  • Promote positive employee engagement
  • Ensure Health and Safety culture is instilled throughout team at all levels
  • Managing processes to ensure time and costs are within objectives
  • Ensure that product is made correctly, first time and on-time
  • Drive and deliver continuous improvement in quality and productivity
  • Manage the planned preventative maintenance programme
  • Impart product knowledge and lean manufacturing best practice to colleagues
  • React positively to problems – ensuring that the root cause is identified and corrective action put in place
  • Deliver budgeted KPIs in terms of feeds per shift, set up times and quality in terms of returns and waste
  • Plan production daily and agree lead times
  • Purchase inks, stereos and dies - smoothly and within budgeted levels
  • Analyse machine downtime and develop actions to prevent re-occurrence
  • Keep Managers informed of work progress and developments
  • Actively involve engineers in plant improvements and efficiency enhancing suggestions
  • Actively improve relations with other departments
  • Regularly check standards of work
  • Ensure cleaning schedules are kept up to date (daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly checks)
  • Daily check of safety in your area
  • To organise meal breaks with no impact on quality or production targets
  • To attend production/safety meetings outside of shift hours
  • Instigate and plan multi-skilling program across shift
  • To arrange overtime to meet the business needs whilst conscious of budget
  • Have a firm but fair attitude regarding the discipline within the department
  • To identify training needs or “weak spots” within the department
