Packaging Technologist - Beauty & Toiletires
Reporting to the Packaging Development Manager, you will be part of a passionate & driven packaging team. As a Packaging Technologist you will provide technical expertise in the development of new products and changes to existing products in the beauty, toiletries, health & pharmaceutical markets. The packaging team support the marketing, sales and sourcing functions in the development of products for a wide range of retail and branded customers. The Packaging Technologist is also responsible for providing support to the manufacturing operation located in the UK.
Support the introduction of new and existing packaging materials and components by creating technical specifications and development tooling as required in accordance with customer briefs and project timelines.
To recognise innovative packaging concepts and value re-engineering opportunities which are relevant to our product portfolio & customer base.
Provide technical packaging support to theoperational team including production trials.
Accountability for packaging design and artwork ensuring it is technically correct and uses suitable printing methods. Attending print trials and colour matching as required.
Commercial evaluation of packaging components
Manage packaging testing procedures in line with the customer’s brief and technical requirements to ensure the product is fit for purpose and meets regulatory obligations.
Technical support and guidance for all suppliers & 3rd party contractors as well as our customers including participation in packaging audits and supplier appraisal.
Generation and execution of packaging related technical documents in compliance with customer requirements and legislation.
Continuous improvement of our processes, operations and systems.
Responsible for packaging compliance activities including: change management, deviation investigations, corrective actions and preventative actions (CAPA), root cause analysis (RCA) and complaint investigation.
Operate within our quality management system and apply Good Manufacturing Practices in all areas of responsibility.
Skills and Competencies required :
Good knowledge and understanding of the development and manufacture of toiletries, healthcare & pharmaceutical products and a broad knowledge of the different packaging requirements.
Able to make good technical, operational and commercial decisions.
Able to prioritise and manage workload to consistently achieve project timings.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to deliver technical expertise to all key stakeholders – customers, suppliers, peers, internal teams including senior management.
Adaptable and flexible to cope with the dynamic nature of product development.
Ability to interpret and translate GMP Guidelines into effective business processes and procedures.
Able to identify opportunities for process and operational improvements and deliver change projects.
Able to maintain and extend knowledge and experience of relevant toiletry, healthcare & pharmaceutical technology relating to marketed packaging and general work practices by appropriate training courses, conferences, exhibitions and review of relevant literature.
The ideal candidate will be approachable, organised, relay information clearly and concisely with confidence. They should be willing to ask questions and constructively challenge where appropriate. We work cross functionally so able to communicate on all levels is key, from production staff to senior management level as well as with customers, designers and suppliers. The candidate needs to be flexible and willing to contribute to the success of the team.
