NPD Packaging Technologist - Cosmetics & Skincare
To develop packaging that is technically functional, innovative, fit for purpose, legally acceptable and meets the customer service and production requirements of the business within a leading global cosmetics, skincare, haircare & fragrance company.
Ensure that all relevant legal legislation to products and systems is met, and that documentation is obtained and kept for the required length of time.
Write packing specifications and ensure packaging is developed and manufactured to specific standards at targeted costs and to the agreed critical paths and co-ordinate the appraisal of technical drawings especially for custom tooled components.
Identify new and innovative types of packaging & assess the feasibility of proposed development in terms of target cost and manufacturing method. Co-ordinate the preparation and issue of product packaging component supplier briefs and providing information for costing of packaging components.
To work closely with the product teams and assist where necessary in the product presentation to customers, communicating clearly the quality standards and technical requirements of the offer. Propose, discuss and agree component test requirements with the customer and co-ordinate all necessary component tests
Ensure the approval of packaging component specifications prior to manufacture by suppliers. Set component and product standards for suppliers and pack houses and assist with supplier initial line trials and set up packing lines.
Work closely with Production on reviewing the sourcing and selection of plant equipment to optimise process efficiency and deliver a cost reduction programme, issue of technical content of production assembly instructions and assist with production line trials.
To develop and maintain good customer relationships through effective communication and correspondence ensuring the customer's needs are dealt with in a professional manner and to assist in the organisation of customer visits in the UK or overseas where necessary
Preferred Education/Qualifications & Experience requirements
Technical, engineering, design qualification/degree or HND level. Institute of Packaging Development Diploma preferred but not essential
3 + years Packaging within a manufacturing environment (cosmetics, toiletries, fmcg, food, drinks).
Previous experience/exposure to production/process
Candidates must be fluent in English
Dependant on skills & experience basic up to £38,000 + pension + discretionary bonus
