Based West of Frankfurt/Main
The Technical Service / Application Engineer is the primary technical resource within and across SBU’s responsible for proactively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process and delivering Technical Service to customers at all levels of the value chain.
Working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate, the Application Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process.
The Application Engineer must be able to establish and maintain strong technical relationships throughout the sales cycle and key customer account plans.
After an initial induction phase of 3-6 months the Application Engineer will travel to visit customers approximately 30% of the role.
⦁ Accountable for field-based application development projects with emphasis on technology milestone completion and customer commercialization to meet pipeline targets revenue goals for the respective SBU
⦁ Supports sales function in the technical qualification of leads and opportunities, and delivers application development capability to key customers in line with prioritised commercial targets.
⦁ Facilitates technical analysis, validation of designs and prototypes, and application testing at customers through all stages of the customer’s product development cycle.
⦁ Proactively builds technical relationship within key accounts and highlights opportunities identified at customer account
⦁ Technical project management customer interface for key pipeline targets
⦁ Coordinate all development and applications programs with colleagues and teams in global locations.
⦁ Coordinate customer trials with current products and with new products and liaise with the Product Development Team.
⦁ Participates in and follows application and product development activities for the SBU.
⦁ Tracks competitive technology and identifies new products/opportunities in the market.
⦁ Delivers technical product, processing and regulatory support to existing customers and connected value chain
⦁ Solve customer technical problem directly and through coordination with internal functions
⦁ Deliver bespoke product and process training to customers and the Company’s employees.
⦁ Key regional contact between customer and Quality for resolution of customer concerns.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed to Fulfil the Role:
⦁ Proven customer interface skills and the ability to deliver technical solutions, new applications and existing services.
⦁ Proven industry experience of delivering technical solutions to meet strategic objectives.
⦁ Excellent communication skills – ability to speak both technical and commercial language and translate between.
⦁ In-depth technical experience in the field of high-performance polymers and/or engineering thermoplastics.
⦁ Polymer analytical/forensic techniques
⦁ Polymer processing
⦁ Strong problem solving skills.
⦁ Commercial and business understanding.
⦁ Fluent in German and English, French a distinct advantage.
⦁ FEA and Moldflow/Moldex simulation
⦁ Part design and software programmes
⦁ Component/system testing
Internal and External Relationships:
⦁ All levels within Technology and relative disciplines within Operations.
⦁ Strong working relationships with Sales team
⦁ Application design and processing specialists in customer accounts.
⦁ External organisations, including design houses, test houses and academia.
Special Features (Optional):
⦁ Proactive owning and driving application engineering for development targets to support the business growth objectives
⦁ Delivering technical service to customer accounts
⦁ Lead technical point of contact for sales teams and customers within the respective SBU
⦁ Graduate level degree or higher in relevant materials science or relevant engineering discipline.
⦁ A recognised plastics processing qualification is required.
⦁ Candidates with technical sales experience would be advantageous.
