Our client is a growing international packaging company based in Cheshire. They supply a wide range of primary and secondary packaging. These include films, laminates, pre-formed bags and pouches, high quality print in flexo or gravure up to 10.  

They are looking for an Assistant Buyer with packaging purchasing experience and a very personable attitude to fit within a dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for the right applicant to pursue a career within Procurement / Supply Chain.  The diverse role will include a variety of tasks and will require someone with a keen eye for detail and good understanding of packaging product buying.

Position Role:

  • Providing office based support for Commercial Director
  • Liaising with UK and international suppliers daily
  • Sending quotation requests to suppliers for new and existing business
  • Checking purchase orders to suppliers and order confirmations to customers to make sure that prices are correct and in line with price lists and quotations
  • Sending PO’s to suppliers highlighting specific requirements and ensuring orders are being processed on time
  • Chasing sales contracts (PFI’s) from suppliers and checking their accuracy
  • Working in a busy team environment & having complete overview of all production / planning
  • Performing general administration tasks, such as logging data, updating price lists and filing PO’s
  • Liaising with suppliers in a professional and pleasant manner


  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers to keep track of ongoing orders
  • Become the point of contact for supplier orders, production updates & smaller manufacturing issues / enquiries
  • Work closely with the Commercial Director / Logistics Co-ordinator to ensure orders / shipments are planned efficiently and meet requested delivery dates
  • Assist with new suppliers and new products sourcing

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in working in an office & in purchasing
  • An understanding of packaging, knowledge of plastics, polymers and materials and technical specifications is ideal although full product training will be available.
  • Good computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Skype)
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Reliable and hardworking 
  • Organised and self-motivated
  • Has great attention to detail & initiative  
  • Ability to prioritise and work both independently and within a group
  • Keen interest in procurement / product knowledge and the desire to do well
