Global Packaging Development Director

Our client is a global leader in prestige beauty & the role of Global Packaging Development Director is to support the companystrategy to continue to be the global leader in prestige beauty by ensuring brand packaging is developed to support the values of unrivaled quality, creativity and innovation.

       Understand that the first consumer experience is the package.  Represent the          culture of the brand or business segment being managed.

  • Drive innovation by presenting new packaging concepts, technologies and delivery systems to support new Marketing, Product Development and Design ideas
  • Search new applicable technologies both within and outside our industry in order to continuously evaluate best practice and support product innovation.
  • Provide comprehensive feasibility of each concept or package that defines function, manufacturability, component cost, tooling estimates, preliminary development lead time, risk and global consistency.

       Support the Strategic Management Initiative by managing all aspects of the                development process

  • Manage direct reports,  ensuring they are provided the necessary support and tools to succeed on the assigned task or project.
  • Communicate and work closely with all development groups including Marketing, Product Development, R&D and Design.
  • Work with Package Operations to generate outlines efficiently and process artwork correctly and effectively.
  • Build and cultivate relationships with Global Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering.
  •  Education,  Experience & Technical Skills required :
  • Minimum BS degree in Packaging Science or Engineering.
  • 10 + years experience in beauty/luxury package development
  • Concentrated experience in prestige beauty industry with proven development experience in color, fragrance, skin care categories.
  • Proficiency in computer systems including Unique Package Definition Systems, MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Timeline management systems.

Technical Competency

  • Technical competency in analysis of geometric objects in 2 and 3 dimensions including understanding of clearances, fit and finish of packaging components and subcomponents.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of materials used in the construction and manufacturing of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging including but not limited to:
        • Injection molding.
        • Extrusion molding.
        • Metal forming.
        • Glass forming.
        • Vacuum forming.
        • Assembly of components.
        • Dispensing systems (Pump, Airless).
        • Folding carton and rigid box design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of decorating techniques and materials used on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of test methods used to validate component/package performance.

 • Manage a team of 2 

• Fully responsible for package development 

 • Working closely and managing relationships with in house Creative and Marketing teams based in London

 • Responsible for leading teams including manufacturing engineers, packaging developers, packaging coordinators and quality engineers.

 • Ensuring cost of goods targets are met across all launches

• Initiating and implementing value engineering programs such as glass weight reduction as well as anti-forgery innovation

• Working to extremely strict deadlines on seasonal and limited launches

• Responsible for stainability across all new packaging development 

• Driving innovation with our key joint venture suppliers

• Ensure package testing is met across all new product developments by tracking directly with testing lab

• Responsible for ensuring suppliers adhere to strict  quality standards

• New supplier qualification and verification, including third party

• Regular supplier and production plant visits

• Presenting of new innovation and packaging strategy to the Board and CEO

• Business travel within Europe, Far East, US
