Global Packaging Manager - luxury skincare & cosmetics

Newly created role due to fast company growth, the key responsibility of this role is the development of a global packaging strategy for existing and new product developments, along with a robust, cost efficient and sustainable supply chain design that will support future business growth.

The Global PDM will :

  • Work with supply & quality assurance teams to validate and onboard new packaging suppliers
  • Propose cost & sustainability initiatives to the business, get sign off and deliver projects via suppliers
  • Gather and analyse data relating to packaging trends in beauty and other sectors (primary, secondary + DTC)
  • Build strong industry links to governing bodies, experts and suppliers through attending events & seminars
  • Provide recommendations on novel materials, formats, manufacturing techniques & recyclability options 

Technical Expertise required for this role :

  • Be an integral extension of the NPD team in terms of supporting on packaging sourcing & supply strategy
  • Provide inhouse technical packaging expertise to all teams
  • Work closely with manufacturers to support on packaging testing as part of EPD/NPD process, attending filling trials and representing our brands as required
  • Build strong relationships with Packaging Technologist teams  and create a network of expertise.

 Quality Assurance:

  • Work with the Quality & Technical Manager to define correct quality standards and systems for packaging
  • Support the Quality & Technical Manager to escalate packaging-related issues appropriately with suppliers
  • Support on determining Root Cause Analysis and putting in place technical corrective actions 

Sustainability:

  • Use data and analysis to demonstrate our commitment and progress against our sustainability targets
  • Provide data on our packaging sustainability to assist with consumer & brand communications
  • Own the timely and accurate submission of Packaging Waste data
  • Work with the Operations team (Master Data) to ensure that this information is correctly logged. 

Process Improvement:

  • Build & maintain a catalogue of all current packaging formats & specifications 
  • Support the Ops & NPD on building a tool to track and execute packaging upgrades and changes

You need to know and have: 

  • A proven understanding of the technical elements of packaging through academic or industry experience
  • Experienced individual from a packaging supplier, a beauty brand or other relevant FMCG business
  • Preferably Institute of Packaging qualified and/or CIPS educated
  • Strong knowledge of the International Packaging Industry; ideally within the Beauty sector
  • Strong analytical capabilities to evaluate business needs, identify opportunities and propose solutions
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to influence others outside of own team
  • A proactive, self-motivated individual who can work autonomously but engage within a team environment
  • Great communicator with excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Comfortable and able to present and convey technical data in a relevant way for the audience
  • Flexible and able to work in ever-changing environment and ability to work under pressure
  • Experience with ERP systems, ideally Netsuite, along with strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • This role will involve some international travel
