Key Account Manager - Packaging Closures

Our client is an independently owned business supplying closures from caps, stoppers, bungs, screw caps, capsules, shives and keystones through to tamper evident sleeves to the UK drinks industry from independent craft brewers and distillers through to large scale breweries and global wine & spirits brands.

There is a current requirement for a Key Account Manager with relevant market knowledge to develop the Wine, Vineyard, Spirits and Brewery sectors.

Our client is looking for someone with working knowledge of; Packaging materials and specifications, Good Manufacturing Practice, Bottling line technologies, Quality Assurance & Control Procedures & Systems, ISO 900/1 & 22000, EU/FDA Food Safety legislation

You will be responsible for providing the company with detailed market, customer and supply chain intelligence, covering demand and requirements, pricing plans and competitor activity and pricing. The need to understand customer production data and translate that into future order projections and feed into strategic planning and day to day materials planning to ensure continuity of supply.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To gather and share market intelligence around Customer & Market trends and create and develop a strategic plan for retention and growth within the assigned territory and in the associated sectors
  • To identify and prioritise Customers for growth, and develop plans to deliver volume, value and margin goals
  • Provide continuous management, analysis, report of pricing, margins and P&L for the associated sectors across the territory.
  • To maintain appropriate face-to-face video, phone or email contact with existing customers in line with current / future spend profiles and complete Visit Schedule / Calendar / Customer Visit Reports
  • To gain an understanding of the Customers' existing product lines and product requirements so that proactive interventions can be made
  • To understand and anticipate customer needs for the company products and whether they require standard / stock items or a bespoke / made to order items
  • To understand pricing structures and order lead-times to provide indicative information to customers to aid their decision making process
  • Educate and advise customers to their options and correcting any misconceptions they may have against products that may be a better and more optimal solution for them
  • To gain an understanding of customers' development plans so that the company is in a position to maintain continuity of supply to growing volumes and to win new business
  • Keep level of changes in the market and make appropriate introductions to new entrants to the market to gain their business
  • Provide commercial and technical support to Customers on product issues or the introduction of new products
  • To circulate existing customer strategies, plans and product issues to colleagues in the company
  • To represent the Company at Trade Shows and Industry Events
  • Updating key and essential contacts onto the customer contact Database
  • Completing detailed Materials Development Briefs
  • Completing customer Action Requests
  • Informing the Accounts Team of any changes to invoice and delivery addresses, and contacts

Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

  • You must hold a valid driving licence
  • Excellent collaborative working skills
  • Commercially aware, and is able to understand the strategic impact on decisions made
  • Good knowledge of the FMCG manufacturing industry, preferably within food and drink and packaging sectors
  • Good knowledge of product development process, including lead times
  • Numerically literate
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken, including presentation
  • Strong Customer focus
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical and negotiation skills
  • Project Management skills, especially working to deadlines within existing lead times
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Office suite products
  • Provide value to the Business' ambitions for growth and sustainability
  • Strategic direction of customers within the territory
  • Main point of contact for Key Customers within the assigned territory
  • Be a credible advocate for the company with the customers and the companys supply chain partners
  • Failure to respond to Customer queries or issues could have significant negative impacts for the Company and may lead to reputational damage for the Company
