SHIFT MANAGER (GLUE) – CORRUGATED PACKAGING (PK4687)                                                             


£Negotiable depending duties & skills that candidates can bring to benefit the company + 26 days holiday + bank holidays + death in service (4x salary) + sick pay scheme

Hours of work - Late shift with 30min unpaid lunch break:

Monday to Wednesday: 13:20pm to 23:10pm

Thursday: 13:20pm to 22:50pm

Shift could be alternating early and late every two weeks, shift pattern is not set in stone depending on skill set it could be a permanent early or late

Our Client is a leading independent packaging manufacturer supplying a range of packaging products to an excellent customer base. They are currently looking to recruit a Shift Manager to increase the throughput of goods through the factory, reducing wastes and increasing quality and to standardise and improve their changeover in gluing.

They require someone to provide problem solving ideas across all 3 gluers when the Factory Manager is not present (the Factory Manager works 8:00am to 5:00pm). They also require the standardisation of glue make readies on all machines then the continuous review and improvement on these to allow them to produce smaller batches more regularly.

As a shift manager you will be there to offer knowledge and support to those running the machines (primarily glue, but also print and cut), ensuring they have adequate staffing for each machine, reducing wastes, and increasing throughput.

A background in the corrugated packaging industry is advantageous

Specific Job Skills:       

  • Experience running complex carton jobs essential
  • Experience running peel and seal applicators beneficial
  • Experience cutting flatfed and rotary corrugated beneficial
  • Experience at supervisor or Management level beneficial
  • To have experience in Lean / Theory of Constraints is beneficial
  • Experience training others is beneficial
  • Good time management skills

Responsibilities / Requirements:

  • 5 Direct reports – 5x Supervisors
  • Reporting to the Factory Manager
  • The Supervisors are responsible for holiday and absence forms/approvals, agency staff induction, motivation of staff, informal 1 to 1 chats, training and development reviews
  • The Factory Manager, is responsible for disciplinaries and grievances, as well as weekly and job vs actual performance reviews
  • Safety first
  • Ensure only high quality products are produced
  • Provide support and training to their Glue Minders and Trainees
  • Work with cut and crease supervisor to improve cutting and creasing specification
  • Work with factory manager to improve their glue and associated consumables specification
  • Work with print and cut supervisors to improve the quality of products from print and cut to increase throughput through the gluing department
  • Ensure 5S is maintained
  • Coordinate and move staff from other machines based on daily attendance, arranging agency cover where needed
  • Monitor quality and assist in creating understanding of the customers requirements
  • Assist in creation and improvement of standard operating procedures
  • Monitor and improve changeover speeds
  • Discuss with planner the production plans to give highest throughput
  • Regular meetings with other shift supervisor and Factory Manger to discuss factory performance
  • Provide holiday cover for factory manager and glue minders
  • Ordering of consumables and parts for machines
  • Ensure all health and safety, quality and maintenance procedures are followed
  • Provide and update communication to staff on performance, improvements and future plans
  • Attend any training courses required
