Position: Packaging Technical Assistant

Location: North West

Salary: £Up to £25K

The Company: A long established food manufacturer producing bakery products that employs over 4,230 people across 13 bakeries and 11 depots, producing over 2 million bakery products every day.

The Role: To support the department by ensuring a strong relationship with each bakery technical team and by helping to disseminate packaging skills throughout. To assist with packaging trials which the department is required to carry out. Provide ongoing packaging expertise and support to the business (e.g. by answering queries, chairing site packaging technical meetings and taking minutes, facilitating supplier training days) in order to ensure that the business has the advice and help it requires. Carry out trial work on existing and new packaging materials, when required to support the Packaging Technical Co-Ordinator, to be certain that no issues would occur if this became the substrate of choice. Document all packaging trials and communicate the outcomes internally and externally to ensure that findings are used and built upon and all relevant personnel are aware of the results and any further steps which need to be taken. Train employees to be able to conduct wrapping and bagging audits so that they are able to carry them out in the correct manner, to the correct standard. Support the positive release system to ensure that it is completed and documented in a timely and efficient manner as required, and that all findings of these checks are brought to the attention of the relevant people. Make finished packaging available for marketing / photography in a timely manner and assist where required with the mocking up of finished products in packaging, ensuring that the latest packaging design samples are always available in the department. Provide, when required, accurate and timely business information and reports to enable effective commercial decisions to be made. To assist with planning and carrying out supplier training workshops as and when required.

Requirements: • Knowledge and experience of packaging in an FMCG environment. • Knowledge and experience of print and origination processes. • Knowledge and experience of how production processes and products can affect wrapping/bagging performance. • H&S/Food Safety systems & legislation knowledge as it affects packaging issues. • IT and PC knowledge – able to use widespread functions within relevant software (inc MAPS and MAC). • Full Driving Licence.
