To ensure the highest level of quality, innovation and commercial benefit for packaging  of leading cosmetics & beauty ranges.  Product ranges include Colour Cosmetics, Skincare, Bath & Body, Suncare & Gifting.

Principle Accountabilities:

Technical management of the packaging supply base to ensure ethical and environmental standards are maintained

Legal and environmental compliance for packaging.

Reporting of compliance data for all packaging initiatives.

Value engineering of packaging to meet aesthetic and margin expectations

Technical aspect of packaging development process

Roll out initiatives from central packaging team particularly those around modularity and transit packaging.

Principle Responsibilities:

Work with buying and technical teams to ensure we have full understanding of brief and support as required to meet the design criteria.

Evaluation of mock ups and design proposals are representative of what can be produced and amend as required to meet sustainability plans whilst retaining the balance with design and market.

Structural assessment and sign off of  samples.

Evaluation of initial designs with buying and designers to ensure what is presented can be reproduced. Highlight tooling and decoration limitations and advise alternatives/amendments.

Review of developed artworks to verify compliance with business requirements.

Able to identify high risk formulation/packaging combinations and assess options as required.

Sign off and approval of technical drawings for commissioned packs.

Manage buying teams understanding of decoration and manufacturing processes for packaging to ensure best aesthetic fit can be attained.

Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of packaging innovation developments with packaging suppliers.

Examine marketplace competition on packaging, maintaining the comparative shop information. Informing the team of any major newness.

Challenge and manage suppliers to deliver the required standards.

Escalate any issues with sufficient time to the packaging manager.

Identify high risk formulation/packaging and assess testing with suppliers.Sign off of testing that fall outside of criteria but within commercial tolerance.

Ensure store functionality.

Monitoring packaging impact on operational guidelines.

Build and maintain relationships with the product team to ensure a seamless process.

Will be required to travel in UK and overseas as required, both independently and as part of a team.

Core Areas of Knowledge & Experience:

Understanding of the design and buying process.

Knowledge of packaging production processes, including glass, polymer and paperboard and the decoration and print processes applicable.

Knowledge of packaging innovation developments.

Practical experience of packaging manufacture and retail.

Practical and full understanding of manufacturing and filling of cosmetics, toiletries, fragrance and bath and body product.

Project Management.

Understanding of environmental factors affecting packaging and associated raw materials.
